Agricultural Projects

 

EBDA has been cooperating with international and national organizations, institutions, NGO, research centers  in order to promote and enhance organic agriculture. 

  • Socio-economic study on the conservation of wild medicinal plants in South Sinai, Egypt (GEF,UNDP project)

 

  • Promoting medicinal and aromatic plants’ cultivation in Fayoum Governorate, Egypt (Dutch Government project)

 

  •   Integration of organic farming in the IPM programme in Fayoum, Egypt (Dutch Government project)

 

  • Potentials of organic farming in Wadi Rayan Protectorate, Egypt (Italian Government project)

 

  • Renewable Energy Technology Development Project, El-Fayoum Governorate, Egypt, implemented in 2000. The research component of this project has proven that for small-scale farmers tunnel solar dryers have improved substantially the drying quality of herbs in comparison to the traditional drying methods

 

  • SMAP Project on promoting the sustainable use of agricultural land through the introduction of organic farming methods. The overall objectives of this project are to improve the environmental impact of agriculture in the Mediterranean basin and to reduce desertification and land degradation processes

 

  • Fixed Price Popular Market Project (UNDP). The overall objectives are to provide an integrated poverty-reduction instrument through the establishment of a fixed-priced popular market. The project integrates poverty reduction, environmental sustainability and governance through a scheme that links agricultural producers to urban markets via an organized solidarity based group

 

  • Using solar dryers as an alternative sustainable drying system for small-scale farmers. The project objectives are to develop a solar drying system with optimum capacity to cope with crop pattern, transportation means and the utilization of existing energy in facilities. The project will design, construct, experiment, and modify a prototype dryer. The drying characteristics and drying conditions will be identified for various crops

 

  • Production of improved and organically certified seeds for medicinal crops and herbs. The project’s aim is to raise the capability of producing organic seeds of herbs and medicinal crops from current levels to actual country needs; and to study the feasibility of establishing an appropriate facility for cleaning, grading and packing to deal with the targeted quantities

 

  • Evaluating new feeding technology based on crop residues for Upper Egypt’s small-scale farmers.  The Project’s aim is to increase the income of small-scale farmers raising dairy animals through the application of innovative non-traditional fodder out of rice straw treated with certain biological products

 

  • Preventing Child Labor Abuse in the Agriculture Sector. The objectives of this project are to develop and promote the biodynamic concept, enhance safety and health conditions in the working environment, and to encourage farm owners to provide their farms with the minimum requirement of good working conditions for children

 

  • Poverty Alleviation.  A project to alleviate poverty in 13 villages of the EL-Sharkia Governorate, and to the capabilities of its population to ensure a continuing to raise their standard of living

 

  • Bio-Stimulants: Production of Native Microbial Inoculants and Bio-stimulants for Bio-Agriculture. The project aims at producing microbial inoculants and bio stimulants (as bio fertilizers) for Biodynamic-Agriculture

 

  • New aspects in the utilization of new and renewable sources of energy to provide and maintain optimal microclimatic conditions in commercial greenhouses. The project aims at utilizing the solar energy flux incident on Sekem farms and converted it into thermal energy using solar water heaters. The energy collected and stored is utilized to heat a commercial greenhouse (32m length and 9 meter width, net floor surface area of 288 m²) at night and during the winter season

 

  • Development of hybrid solar dryers as an alternative and sustainable drying system for herbs and medicinal plants.  The aim of this project is to develop and construct a hybrid solar dryer, based and tested on the results of a verified simulation model, and to produce the final design, specifications, feasibility study and operational manual

 

  • Kafr El Sheikh project in cooperation with RWE company 2012 – 2014. The project aims for the development of Kafr El Sheikh Governorate (El Hamul) through gradual implementation of organic agriculture proposal is to implement in the target area a group of clusters consisting of 6 farms, 20 feddan for each with a total area of 120 feddan with a program of social development to farmers and their families

 

  • Hand in Hand project – women empowerment 2016 – 2017 ( Social ) 

 

  • Hand in Hand project – Kindergarten 2017 – 2018 ( Social ) 

 

  • UNIDO cotton project in Damietta and Kafr El Sheikh 2018. The objective of the project is to Provide training and capacity building modules for 100 farmers and workers on organic cotton planting in two governorates, Damietta and Kafr El-Sheikh. where the organic farmers would share their experiences on the organic farming and its benefits with the conventional farmers
